Plate 06

Room for more kinds of player

Cricket asks for patience and timing before it asks for size or speed, and there is a job on the field for almost every temperament.

06

A coach kneels on the grass beside a girl and turns a red cricket ball so she can see how the fingers sit across the seam, while two other children wait behind.

Who plays

A beginner is not a problem to be accommodated — beginners are who we are for. Spin bowling rewards a child who thinks about the batter rather than one who can throw hard, and a long innings rewards one who can wait.

  • BuildA keeper crouches, a bowler runs, a batter waits. The best fielder on a side is often the smallest player on it.
  • ContactNone. Which widens the door again.
  • ExperienceNot assumed. Most young people in Ohio have never seen a match, and that is the ordinary starting point here.
  • Girls and boysJunior cricket is played by both, in the same sessions at the youngest ages.

Ages, a ground, a first date

None of the three is settled, which is why they sit in the index with no plate number. Write to info@emwhub.org and say how old your child is — the ages that come in are what there is to work with.

Each of those entries gets a plate number on this site as we settle it. Nothing is announced here before it exists.
